Pastor’s Devotion – Loving As One Who is a Part of Christ
“Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy”. I Peter 4:12 &13.
Suffering is something that at first thought no one desires, few look forward to, and most hope to avoid. Struggling with it is never easy, and accepting it as God wills and desires, demands great surrender, and true dependence upon God. To be honest, I think most believers hope to avoid suffering, concentrate on health slogans trying to avoid the “ouch” of human problems we all face. [more]
On August 5, 2008 I will reach my 82nd. birthday and continue my 65th. year of Evangelism. Only the dear Lord Jesus has made this possible, as He is the one who is in charge of a believers life. Our God is always in control. What then is the responsibility of the older saints in every church? Since I am one, I want to write about older folks and their lives and the responsibilities of their final years on earth. To many, older folks seen to be just taking up space, talking of their pains and just waiting to die. We must not be a statistic but a participating member of our church. It seems to me there are at lease seven things we can still do. [more]
“Do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord.” Deut. 13:18.
It seems to me that most of today’s thinking is in itself unacceptable behavior. Pressure everywhere is being applied to change the proven absolute truths of God. How foolish man has become. Common sense should tell us there are many things we cannot change. Fire burns. It always has and it always will. Water is wet. It always has been and it always will be. The law of gravity cannot be changed. Right is right and wrong is wrong. It always has been and it always will be. [more]
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Joshua 1:8.
Success is something the world goes after but really doesn’t understand. Money and education do not guarantee it. One cannot marry into it, nor gain it by labor alone. Success as the world knows it is fleeting and unsatisfying. It allows worldly thrills and possessions for a time, but ends up a hollow lifetime that doesn’t satisfy. For those who read the Bible and follow its commands, true success is possible and profitable. [more]
“And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” Luke 2: 40&52.
I have preached on this theme to many thousands of teenagers through my years. Here at home and in foreign countries, I have urged all to consider Luke 2:52 a vital requirement for maturing into productive adulthood. We hear preachers saying we should be like Christ. This can be accomplished by concentrating on the four areas that brought Him to maturity. [more]
“In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths” Prov. 3:6.
The shortage of new leaders training for future service, is prelude to a manpower tragedy. It is beginning to hinder the spread of the Gospel. On the mission field thousands of long time missionaries will soon have to come home because of health and age. Nearly every town has several churches looking for pastors they cannot find. There is a very real shortage of full time workers and fewer than ever are preparing to enter the field. [more]
“Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou riseth up. Deut. 11:18-19 [more]
“Let us consider one another to provoke into love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more as ye see the day approaching. For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins. Heb, 10:24-26 [more]
“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” I Cor. 3:11 [more]
